Vegans live lifestyles free of meat and animal products, but that doesn’t mean that they should deny themselves a cup of tea, an ice cream or a bowl of cereal. Almond milk to the rescue! Almond milk is an excellent choice when it comes to looking for a great dairy-free alternative. Besides its delicious and creamy taste, it has a lot of great benefits.
1 IT’S SUPER EASY TO MAKE
All you need is a blender and a strainer and some water. Here is how you do it. First soak about 1 to 1.5 cups of almonds in water. After an hour or so you will find it much easier to peel them. Toss them in a bowl with enough water to cover them by a few inches. Let them soak at room temperature overnight. The next morning when you uncover them you will see how plump they have become. Boil some water and drain the almond water, then transfer them over to your blender. Add about a cup of water that is room-temperature and blend them for a minute. The mixture will come out looking thick. Transfer the mixture to a bowl and add two more cups of boiling water, then let them sit for 15 minutes. The last step is to ladle your almond mixture into a fine mesh strainer and extract all of that goodness. So easy and so good!
2 ITS VERSATILE
Almond milk may not taste the exact same as the milk you get from a cow but it sure tastes great…maybe even better! The best part is that you can use it as a dairy substitute in any recipe that calls for milk and it will turn out awesome. You can make ice cream or lattes with it and so much more.
3 IT KEEPS YOUR HEART HEALTHY
Drinking almond milk is good for your heart because there isn’t any cholesterol or saturated fat in it. It is also very low in sodium and high in omega fatty acids while helping to prevent heart disease and high blood pressure.
4 IT’S GOOD FOR YOUR BONES
There is no doubt that cow’s milk has high amount of calcium while almond milk has 30% of the recommended daily amount. It also contains 25% of the recommended amount of Vitamin D. This will reduce the risk of arthritis and other bone diseases such as osteoporosis.
